Hey Honeys !
As well as being skin conscious we want to share ways to start being more environmentally conscious. Making your own kitchen based compost bin is perfect for not only the disposal of your Pod but of course any fruit/ veggie scraps and any other natural biodegradable products you use in your home.
Creating your bin
What you'll need:
- Aesthetically pleasing 👏🏻 bin with lid
- Bottom tray with sides
- Drill
- Soil
- Worms
- Newspaper
- Your biodegradable items
Step 1
Purchasing your tin, I found these at Kmart ! Once you have your tin, it is time to start drilling.
Drill 4 holes in the bottom of your bin, keep in mind you will need to have your tray sitting under it at all time so don't make the holes too big.
Step 2
Shred up some newspaper to cover the bottom of your bin, dampen it slightly and sprinkle some soil over the top.
Step 3
Add in your worms here. Go with around 250g (1000) of worms this will get your bin started, as it grows you will be able to see how much the little creatures are consuming and add more if needed. You can pick these up from most areas on gumtree.com or Bunnings.
Step 4
You are ready to start composting. Remember to stir your compost up every week to ensure oxygen gets through the bin.
Biodegradable materials include:
- NAS Pods
- Newspaper
- Fruit and Vegetable Scraps
- Teabags
- Fruit and Vegetable peelings
- Tree leaves
- Cardboard
Clear out your bin each month into the earth !
Love
